The Illinois Radon Policy Taskforce is taking urgent action once again. This time the mission is to protect school children.

After successfully passing the Illinois Radon Tenant Protection Act, which took effect on January 1, 2024, the focus now shifts to Springfield. With the leadership of IL State Senator Laura Ellman as primary sponsor, the Radon Policy Taskforce is pushing to pass the School Radon Protection Act into law.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. It is colorless, odorless, and deadly. Schools are enclosed environments where children and staff spend most of their day. Indoor air safety must include radon testing and mitigation. Our children deserve to learn in safe air. Educators and school staff deserve safe workplaces.

WHEN TO ACT
We need your voice immediately! Legislative momentum happens quickly. The first and second weeks of March are critical because decisions are being made now!

In fact, members of the Taskforce are actively meeting with State Senators and State Representatives to secure support and move this bill forward for passage and signature by IL Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
