Support the School Radon Protection Act

HELP PASS THE SCHOOL RADON PROTECTION ACT!

The Illinois Radon Policy Taskforce is taking urgent action once again. This time the mission is to protect school children.

After successfully passing the Illinois Radon Tenant Protection Act, which took effect on January 1, 2024, the Taskforce’s focus has shifted back to Springfield. With the leadership of IL State Senator Laura Ellman as the primary bill sponsor, the Radon Policy Taskforce is pushing to pass the School Radon Protection Act into law and get it signed by IL Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. It is colorless, odorless, and deadly. Schools are enclosed environments where children and staff spend most of their day. Indoor air safety must include radon testing and mitigation. Our children deserve to learn in safe air. Educators and school staff deserve safe workplaces.

We need your voice immediately! Legislative momentum happens quickly. The first and second weeks of March are critical to get this bill passed because decisions are being made now!

In fact, members of the Taskforce are actively meeting with and lobbying our State Senators and State Representatives to secure support and move this bill forward for passage and signature by Gov. Pritzker.
